Andrea Kimi Antonelli Secures First Formula 1 Victory with Mercedes in China
Teenage rookie Andrea Kimi Antonelli scored his first-ever Formula 1 win after a confident drive at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai, giving Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team a major result early in the season.
Starting from pole position, the 19-year-old briefly lost the lead during the opening moments but quickly fought back to regain control of the race. From there, Antonelli managed the pace and kept mistakes to a minimum, holding off the competition for the remainder of the event.
His teammate George Russell finished second, completing a strong one-two result for Mercedes. Lewis Hamilton, now driving his second season for Scuderia Ferrari, rounded out the podium after a tight battle with teammate Charles Leclerc.
The race wasn’t short on drama. A safety car appeared early after an incident involving Lance Stroll, while reigning champion Max Verstappen retired due to a mechanical issue. Meanwhile, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri never made it to the start because of technical problems with their cars.
Antonelli’s win is historic for several reasons. At just 19, he became the youngest winner in Formula 1 history and the first Italian driver to win a Grand Prix since Giancarlo Fisichella back in 2006.
For Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff, the victory validates the bold decision to promote Antonelli to the Formula 1 team. If this performance is any indication, the young Italian may quickly become one of the sport’s biggest new stars.

Kyle Kirkwood Edges Álex Palou to Win the Java House Grand Prix of Arlington
Kyle Kirkwood delivered a late-race charge to win the inaugural Java House Grand Prix of Arlington in Arlington, Texas, beating defending IndyCar champion Álex Palou in a tense finish.
Driving for Andretti Global, Kirkwood made his move with about 15 laps remaining, diving past Palou to grab the lead. Once in front, he held his ground through the final laps and took the checkered flag under caution to secure the victory. The win marks Kirkwood’s sixth career IndyCar victory—and notably his fifth on a street circuit, a type of track where he has consistently excelled.
Palou finished second for Chip Ganassi Racing after leading much of the race, while Will Power completed the podium in third place.
Kirkwood’s performance was especially impressive considering he started seventh on the grid. The strong drive through the field helped him secure the first-ever win at the new Arlington street race and pushed him into the early lead in the IndyCar championship standings.
With another street-course victory added to his résumé, Kirkwood continues to establish himself as one of the series’ most dangerous drivers whenever the walls close in.

Denny Hamlin Reflects on Family and Legacy After Emotional Victory
After celebrating in Victory Lane, Denny Hamlin spoke about how much the moment meant not just for his career, but for his family and the journey that brought him to the top level of NASCAR Cup Series.
Hamlin described stock-car racing as a true family sport, explaining that the people who stand beside a driver—from parents and partners to children and crew members—are just as much a part of the journey as the person behind the wheel. For him, celebrating a win with his family nearby made the moment feel even bigger.
He also reflected on the sacrifices that helped him reach NASCAR’s highest level. Hamlin has often spoken about how his parents supported his racing dreams when he was young, investing time and resources to keep his career moving forward. Those early efforts, he said, are part of what makes victories today so meaningful.
Another point that stood out during the post race interview was the legacy aspect of winning. Hamlin acknowledged that every victory adds his name to the long list of NASCAR race winners—drivers whose careers helped shape the sport. Being mentioned alongside legendary figures from the sport’s history is something he said he doesn’t take lightly.
The veteran driver noted that when you win at the Cup level, you become part of the sport’s permanent record. Sharing space on the all-time winners list with drivers who built NASCAR is a reminder of how difficult it is to reach that level—and how special each win truly is.
In the end, Hamlin made it clear that the moment was about more than statistics or trophies. For him, it was about celebrating with family, honoring the people who helped him along the way, and realizing that his name now sits among some of the greatest drivers the sport has ever seen.
